New Meetings Research Released
In February 2011, The Convention Industry Council released a study of unprecedented size and scope that profiles the national impact of meetings and conventions. Conducted by PwC US with the assistance of industry researchers, The Economic Significance of Meetings to the U.S. Economy quantifies the economic contributions made by the 1.8 million meetings, trade shows, conventions, congresses, incentive events and other meetings that take place across the U.S.
Findings include:
• 1.7 million jobs supported
• $263 billion in direct spending
• $106 billion contribution to the GDP
• $60 billion in labor revenue
• $14.3 billion in federal tax revenue
• $11.3 billion in state and local tax revenue
