Dear Governor Gregoire:
I am writing to you during National Travel and Tourism Week, May 9-17, 2009, to urge your support of one of Washington State's largest industries.
Tourism is vital to Washington State's prosperity and to my business and community. Particularly in these down economic times, it is important to maintain support of tourism in order to stimulate jobs, out-of-state expenditures and tax revenues that benefit us all.
In considering the state's 2009-2011 operating and capital budgets, please veto the sections and appropriation items that are harmful to the Washington's Tourism industry.
- In ESHB 1244, veto section 948 and part of section 805. This action would reinstate most of the funding for the state tourism program and the Tourism Commission for the 2009-11 biennium. It would also prohibit the transfer of funds from the state convention center capital account to the state general fund.
- In ESHB 1216, veto section 1094. This deletes the section relating to the expansion studies for the State Convention Center. It would save the money for more appropriate uses.
Thank you for your consideration!
Sincerely,
[Insert name of chief executive officer,
Organization name, City, State]
