State of the Industry
Tourism is a crucial economic development focus for the City of Yakima and all of the Yakima Valley. It creates jobs and taxes while celebrating the region's quality of life and heritage.
Tourism gives balance to this agriculture-based economy. It's a symbiotic relationship; visitors come to the Yakima Valley for its foods and fine wine. Likewise, visitors provide customers for the local farms and wineries, while creating a national demand for the many crops that are grown here.
When tourists frequent restaurants all around the state, the nation and many parts of the world, chances are that they’re enjoying the Yakima Valley's bounty.

Tourism Trends
Yakima and the Yakima Valley is receiving more visitors who crave a sense of place. They seek personal rewards and authentic experiences. They're no longer content with merely sightseeing and relaxing. They want to be a part of local culture and heritage, picking their own fresh fruit or wine tasting by horseback, helping with the harvest at a locally owned winery or to watching an artist paint a mural in Toppenish.
Tourism Industry Issues
Wine, culinary and farm fresh experiences are central to the Yakima Valley tourism brand. Sustaining the agricultural heritage and wine related lifestyle that have shaped its visitor product is crucial. Also important is growing and improving the infrastructure the valley's tourism industry, including transportation, convention center enhancements, downtown redevelopments throughout the valley and the overall state of the economy.
